Vietnam Post & Telecommunications Corp., the country’s biggest phone operator and provider, said profit in 2009 increased 2.4 percent on rising numbers of new phone users.
Pretax profit rose to VND13.5 trillion ($731 million), or 3.4 percent higher than VNPT’s target for the year, according to the company’s year-end report. VNPT is targeting 10 percent growth in profit in 2010, the report said.
Hanoi-based VNPT added about 22 million new phone subscribers, around 2 percent more than in 2008, the company said in the document. Revenue rose 30 percent to VND78.6 trillion, it said.
The state-owned company’s plans to sell shares in its Vietnam Mobile Telecommunication Services Co. and Vinaphone Telecommunication Services Co. units were delayed from last year amid an economic slowdown.
